DATELINE: Dallas, TX
The conference was relatively interesting...there were the usual conference stuff, with some talks being useful, others crappy, "bonding" with co-workers at the bar, etc. It was kind of fun to meet other people from the company because I never really see any of them (except every once in a while at the airport).
Every day the conference had a big speaker in a hall that sat maybe 1500 people. Mary Tyler Moore and Rudy Guliani were supposed to be there but we got Brooke Shields and Lance "The Lone Nut Ranger" Armstrong in their places. As we all filed into the hall a band played oldies with a funky soft-jazz flair. The super special highlight was that when the hall was pretty much full, the band would play two more songs. These songs were special because they were oldies with the lyrics changed to be about fund raising. For example, they changed the words of "Always on my mind" to "AFP [the Association of Fundraising Professionals] is always on my mind":
Maybe I didn't network
quite as good as I should
Maybe I didn't visit your trade show
quite as often as I should
It wasn't quite as crazy as the Bank One guy but it was as close as I will ever get. The singer even went into the audience and made people sing parts of the songs.

your conference sounds way more awesome than the ones I go to. We don't ever have special songs made up about us.
